The Man Behind the Surgeon
The water is in his blood.
So is giving others the ability to see it.
Ski patroller. Raft guide. Pilot. MSDT diver. Spearfisherman. Sailor. Brother. Son. Uncle. And the ophthalmologist who came home to Waco because he believes every person here deserves to see everything this planet offers.

Who He Is
The same inquisitive, knowledge-seeking mind.
The curiosity that drives Dr. Swann to explore a reef at sixty feet, read a sectional chart at altitude, or navigate whitewater is the same curiosity that drives him to master every nuance of corneal disease, lens technology, and surgical technique. For him, these are not separate lives. They are expressions of the same thing.
He chose ophthalmology because sight is what connects people to everything they love. He chose to come home to Waco because the people here deserve a physician who is both thoroughly trained and genuinely invested in this community.
The Journey
From the Mountain to the OR
Before Medicine
Life at Full Speed
Before any medical school application, Dr. Swann was already living close to the edge of what the natural world offers. He worked as a ski patroller — a demanding, technical role that requires emergency medical response in mountain conditions — and as a whitewater raft guide, navigating rivers and keeping people safe in the kind of environments that demand split-second judgment and calm under pressure. These weren't hobbies. They were the foundation of who he is.
Medical Training
The Pursuit of Expertise
When Dr. Swann chose ophthalmology, he chose to pursue it at the deepest level available — completing not one but three fellowships in refractive surgery, cornea, and glaucoma. The same curiosity and commitment to mastery that drove him to become a certified dive instructor and earn a pilot's license drove him to become one of the most comprehensively trained eye surgeons in Texas.
Waco, Today
Home, Family, and Purpose
Dr. Swann returned to Central Texas to build something meaningful — a practice where the people of Waco and the surrounding communities would have access to the same level of subspecialty care previously available only in Dallas or Austin. He is here because this is home. His family is here. His patients are his neighbors.
Life Outside the OR
The Adventurer
Dr. Swann approaches the world with the same precision and curiosity he brings to surgery — whether that means managing a ski patrol response at altitude, reading a nautical chart, or planning a spearfishing dive.
Ski Patroller
Before applying to medical school, Dr. Swann worked as a ski patroller — providing emergency medical response in mountain terrain. The role demanded calm under pressure, technical skill, and the ability to make fast, consequential decisions. Sound familiar?
Whitewater Raft Guide
He also guided whitewater rafting trips — reading rivers, managing risk, keeping groups safe in dynamic environments. The connection between guiding people through challenging terrain and guiding patients through complex surgical decisions is not a metaphor. It is genuine.
Pilot's License
Dr. Swann holds a pilot's license and flies regularly to explore Texas from above — visiting communities, appreciating the landscape that defines Central Texas, and maintaining the disciplined situational awareness that aviation demands. The checklist mentality of a pilot maps directly to the surgical precision of an ophthalmologist.
Sailing
On the water and under sail, Dr. Swann finds the same combination of technical discipline and sensory richness that defines the rest of his life outside the OR. Sailing demands patience, reading conditions, and trust in your instruments — all qualities that serve a surgeon well.
The Water
The water is in his blood.
So is giving others the ability to see it.
His love of the ocean, rivers, and open water is not a pastime — it is a lens through which he understands his purpose as a physician. The world beneath the surface is extraordinary, and Dr. Swann has seen it in ways most people never will. But the reason he trained for years, mastered three fellowships, and returned to Waco is so that his fellow Wacoans — every one of them — can have the same ability to see all that this planet offers.
MSDT — Master Scuba Diver Trainer
Dr. Swann holds the MSDT rating — one of the highest non-professional certifications in recreational diving — which authorizes him to train and certify other divers. For him, passing on the ability to see underwater life firsthand is a natural extension of everything he believes as a physician.
Diving with Brad
His most frequent dive partner is his brother and business partner, Brad Swann. Together they are always planning the next expedition — spearfishing trips, deep-water dives, and visits to see their mom and dad. Their bond above and below the waterline is the same partnership that runs through the practice.
Spearfishing & Giving Back
Dr. Swann and Brad have donated fishing trips to the community as a way of giving back to the people who trust them with their care. These are not gestures — they are a reflection of a genuine connection to Waco and to Central Texas.
Family First
The Anchor of Everything
Behind every adventure, every dive, every flight, and every surgical day is Dr. Swann's family — the reason he is here, the reason he came home, and the people who remind him every day what sight means to the people who matter most.
His adventures with Brad — his brother and business partner — whether diving off a remote coast or visiting their parents, are a reflection of the bond that runs through everything they have built together. Family is not separate from the practice. In many ways, it is the practice.
Travel, sailing, skiing, diving — these are the ways Dr. Swann shares the world with the people he loves most. And giving other families the vision to do the same is why he comes to work every morning.

Giving Back
Fishing Trips for the Community
Dr. Beau and Brad Swann have donated fishing trips to the community as a direct expression of their belief that giving back is not optional — it is part of being part of a place. These donations are not marketing. They are the Swann brothers doing what they would do anyway, and choosing to share it with the community that supports them.
Their giving is rooted in the same conviction that drives the practice: Waco deserves more. More expertise, more access, more connection to the world beyond the city limits — and more physicians who genuinely see their patients as neighbors.

His inquisitive, knowledge-seeking mind
is what he strives to give every Wacoan:
the ability to see all that this planet offers.
That is why he trained. That is why he came home. That is why he does what he does, every single day, right here in Waco.
